The History of the Principality of Ljetzan

The Principality of Ljetzan traces its roots to the historic Federation of the Seven Municipalities, a culturally autonomous Cimbrian region that maintained its identity through centuries of shifting European rule.
After the fall of the Serenìsima and the Napoleonic reorganization of northern Italy, local autonomy faded, yet the cultural and linguistic heritage endured.
In 2020, inspired by historical research on the Napoleonic treaties and the absence of explicit renunciations of Cimbrian sovereignty,
Prince Peter—descendant of the House of Ljetzan, itself rooted in the medieval Hohenstaufen line—proclaimed the restoration of independence. A transitional regency followed, leading to the establishment of the Landtag and the modern governmental framework.
The Constitution, ratified on 1 July 2023, marked the formal beginning of the principality and the reign of Prince Peter I.
Today, Ljetzan stands as a constitutional monarchy grounded in Cimbrian heritage, dynastic continuity, and a commitment to cultural preservation and neutrality.
